Who Created Vans Shoes?
Vans were originally created in 1966 by Paul and James Van Doren and Gordon Lee in Anaheim, California. The first Vans shoe store was called The Van Doren Rubber Company. It made a name for itself with a rugged shoe design called "The Authentic," which had a sticky sole that skaters loved. It wasn't long before customers could find a Vans store in locations all over California.
What Are the Different Types of Vans Shoes?
Vans come in many different styles, including slip-on, Old Skool, Authentic, Era, MTE, Sk8 Hi, slide sandals, UltraRange sneakers, and fun collaborations such as the Nightmare Before Christmas and Harry Potter collections. Vans are available in canvas and leather, and they're comfy enough to wear all day, whether you're headed to the skate park or a concert.
Do Vans Shoes Stretch?
Most Vans shoes are made of canvas, which will loosen up a little with wear. A typical pair of Vans tennis shoes will stretch an eighth of an inch or so.
Do Vans Go on Sale?
Yes. Our special offers change regularly, so one week, we might be featuring Vans slip-ons, but women's Sk8 Hi shoes might be on sale the next week. Check back often for the best deal!
Are Vans Gym Shoes?
Vans aren't specifically designed to be gym shoes, but you can wear them just about anywhere, including the gym. Of course, you'll want to keep the demands of your workout routine in mind: We probably wouldn't recommend wearing slip-ons to the gym, for instance. If you're looking for Vans running shoes, the Old Skool and Sk8 Hi styles are the best choices, as they offer better support for the arches and ankles.
Are Vans True to Size?
Most Vans shoes are true to size. If you're between sizes, we usually recommend sizing up for most styles. If in doubt, stop by your nearest Journeys store to try on a few pairs of Vans in person.
Do Vans Slip-Ons Run Big or Small?
Vans slip-ons are true to size, but they may seem a little snug at first. They'll loosen up with use for a perfectly comfy fit.
