<h4>3OH!3</h4>
<p>
3OH!3 doesn’t like to brag. Sean Foreman and Nathaniel ‘Nat’ Motte say that making their loud, distorted, electronic-pop music is not about the trophies and notoriety. No, forming 3OH!3 (named after the duo’s area code in Boulder, Colorado) was always about something larger than themselves. It was and remains about being FUN! <a href="#" class="read-more">(read more)</a>
</p>
<div class="more-hidden">
<p>
If we go back to the beginning, we can find Sean in his parents basement, clicking incessantly on his mouse for ‘friend-requests’ on 3OH!3’s sparkling new MySpace page. Meanwhile, across town, Nat is working on earth-shattering beats, hunched over his computer, in what he charmingly referred to as his ‘dungeon’ apartment. There, in a pair of blown-out computer speakers, Nat brought to life what the world currently knows as 3OH!3. Those sounds and songs became the band’s 2007 self-released album, which were handed off across the states until they fell through the mail slot at Photo Finish Records and into the hands of label president Matt Galle. </p>Blown away by Sean and Nat’s visionary production an d clever lyrics, Galle immediately flew the boys into scenic Beltsville, Maryland, to record with the brilliant producer Matt Squire. Feeling at home in the studio, Sean and Nat worked day and night, piecing together their 2008 success, Want. With the help of their furry little producer friend Benny Blanco, 3OH!3’s first single, “Don’t Trust Me,” crawled slowly up the charts for 15 months to attain a No. 1 spot at pop radio, going double platinum and selling over 2.6 million tracks in the process.</p><p>3OH!3 hates to brag, but if they had to they would tell you that they were nominated for “Best New Artist” alongside Lady Gaga, Kid Cudi, and Drake, at the 2009 Video Music Awards. Though they didn’t bring home the moon man, Nat and Sean had just as much fun performing “Don’t Trust Me” in Radio City’s hallowed halls. Nat was actually happy 3OH!3 wasn’t announced best new artist as he claims he would have peed his pants, having not been able to find a bathroom all night. “Drinks impair the ol’ judgment,” he says.</p>These two guys are no strangers to national television either. Appearing multiple times on late night TV (Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly) and alongside the glittery Ke$ha on American Idol, 3OH!3’s learned a few things about working the camera.</p><p>I know 3OH!3 would never say this, but they are one of the best live acts in the business. Their dedication to putting on an epic and fun show every night was rewarded by a nomination for the 2009 MTV Woodies’ Performance Award alongside artists like Green Day, Animal Collective and Phoenix. These boys sell out shows from the rainy streets of London to the Gold Coast of Australia, where, by no coincidence, their songs have gone gold and platinum and continue to sell by the thousands. It’s no wonder that 3OH!3 has been invited to play legendary festivals like Reading and Leads and Warped Tour again and again.</p><p>With such a non-stop touring schedule, it must have been a real relief to retreat to their mountain sanctuary in Breckenridge in January to record their next album. In a snowy cabin, far above the world, Sean and Nat went a little crazy, writing as many as two new songs a day for 14 days. “We had all these songs built up over the past couple years,” Sean says, “and it was like a mental vomit of all the stuff we had been thinking.” This was not gross-tasting vomit, however, this was like roses and gold and everything nice, finally let loose on the world. Before things got weird in the mountains, the boys packed up their gear and headed out to LA to start recording the album that would be known as Streets of Gold.</p><p>Back in the studio with the usual suspects Matt Squire and Benny Blanco, 3OH!3 took all they had learned from touring and experience and put it to use. “There are some crazy sounds on this record,” Nat says, “It sounds like robots making love.” Nothing says love like their first single off the record, “My First Kiss” featuring Ke$ha. “It was like our first kiss with Ke$ha,” Nat says, “It was the first time we met her and she definitely used tongue.” Within a few hours of being released on iTunes, “My First Kiss” jumped to the no. 2 on the overall song chart.</p><p>3OH!3 was very selective when it came to collaborating on Streets of Gold. Having greatly admired his work with Lily Allen and The Bird and the Bee, 3OH!3 sought out producer Greg Kurstin for their own music. “I think Greg has attained a perfect synthesis of electronic and organic music in his work, and he was someone whom I really, really wanted to work with and learn from.” Additionally 3OH!3 teamed with Benny Blanco's mentor, hit-smith Dr. Luke on “My First Kiss” and “Streets of Gold” (the title track to the record). With help from those production Titans, it’s a safe to say a few more songs off the album might lend “My First Kiss” some company at the top of the charts.</p><p>Streets of Gold is the album that 3OH!3 has been struggling to create for thei r whole musical lives. Showing a wide range of tastes—from the car rattling battle raps of “I Can Do Anything” to the post-apocalyptic love ballad “Love 2012” to the throwback casbah sounds of “I Know How to Say”—3OH!3 has evolved into a super-human machine. With Nat’s surgical precision (Nat was destined to be a doctor after all, and has been deferring his acceptance to medical school for a few years) and Sean’s one-two punch lines, every song is bound to be permanently engrained in your head. “We try to make music that is fun and comes across live,” says Sean. “This album is epic,” says Nat, “it has a little piece of everything we like and do. We write and co-produce all our own music, and it was so satisfying to apply all that we learned in the past couple of years.”</p><p>On the road again, 3OH!3 is testing out the new tracks and making more friends. “We’ve played some of the new songs without a single fan knowing the lyrics,” says Nat, “And people are going fucking BANANAS. It’s a great sign!” There are many great signs for 3OH!3 as they take their journey on their own street of gold. Nat, as a writer and producer, has been working with other artists. Sean is keeping busy with his own cowrites—including Ke$ha’s platinum selling “Blah Blah Blah”—and as a result was named the #9 Hit Songwriter in the UK by Music Week. The future is looking bright for these two Boulder boys.</p><p>Nathaniel Motte and Sean Foreman are two very busy guys. If they aren’t filming mini-movies for the deluxe package of Streets of Gold, drawing comic books, or modeling (yes, they are Ford models), they are spending time with their friends or getting outdoors. Sean was crazy enough to sign up for the Chicago Marathon in October, running it to raise money for the American Cancer Society. And Nat is crazy enough to continue his deferral from Medical School at the University of Colorado. What does the future have in store for 3OH!3? “We’re going to JAPAN!!!” Nat answers.</p>< p>
Well, that might be true, but I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more from 3OH!3 and then they will have a hell of a lot more to not brag about.

On their latest full-length, Legendary, The Summer Set are issuing a simple, yet essential call to fans: Be legendary. As a sonic challenge to aim high and never back down, the 12 tracks that comprise Legendary aim to provide hope and inspiration, even if it’s just to forget your problems and have some fun for awhile. <a href="#" class="read-more">(read more)</a>

The Summer Set’s singer Brian Dales says the core concept behind the new record evolved into a metaphor for the singer’s own personal state of affairs, as well as the mantra The Summer Set hopes to inspire their listeners with.
</p>
<p>
“It’s about wanting to be legendary to yourself and to somebody, and learning to love yourself and therefore finding someone to share that with. It’s about being the best you can possibly be: being legendary,” says Dales. “It dawned on me that I was sitting there, sulking over things that were over, and I needed to move on from it and be a better me. It all started right there.”
</p>
<p>
The Summer Set—which also includes drummer Jess Bowen, guitarists John Gomez and Josh Montgomery, and bassist Stephen Gomez—was formed in Scottsdale, Ariz. in 2007, when Bowen and the brothers Gomez (all previously members of Last Call for Camden) recruited Dales and issued the self-released EP Love The Love You Have that fall. By spring, the band had landed a deal with The Militia Group, leading to the June 2008 EP In Color, followed by a third EP, Meet Me on the Left Coast, in December. It wasn’t until signing with Razor & Tie in 2009 that the band began work on a proper full-length debut, and in October 2009 it finally arrived as Love Like This. The Summer Set issued their final releases with Razor & Tie with July 2011’s Everything’s Fine and November 2011’s What Money Can’t Buy EP, before signing a new contract with Fearless Records, which will release Legendary. During the last six years the band has traveled the world playing countless shows, including runs on the 2009 Alternative Press Tour, 2010 Vans Warped Tour, 2011’s red-hot Dirty Work Tour with All Time Low and Yellowcard, the annual Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey, and extensive international dates in places like Australia, Brazil, Japan, the Philippines and Europe.
</p>
<p>
Leading up to this latest record, the band moved into a house in Tempe, Ariz. to write, after spending many months on the road. Both a recharging and rejuvenation period as well as a creative retreat, the experience gave rise to the overall fun, lighthearted vibe of the new album, and the members contributed more as a unit than ever before, with even Stephen Gomez producing the bonus tracks to the album. The record builds upon The Summer Set’s past releases, fusing the energy of Love Like This with the more mature songwriting on Everything’s Fine.
</p>
<p >
“It’s one of the best experiences we’ve ever had as a band, because it was the first time we were home, off the road, seeing our friends again, living our lives and having fun, and that energy inspired us, kicked us back into gear,” Dales says. “We’re very excited to release this record. I think this is the proudest batch of songs we’ve ever had. We wanted to go into this like we’re a brand new band, and figure out what our best new sound is.”
</p>
<p>
For the band, finding that new sound has had a lot to do with personal development, catching them at a particularly free-wheeling stage in life. After coming home from tour and having recently ended a relationship, Dales says he found himself desperately seeking a new direction, and found the answer by throwing himself headlong into his new life. It’s the journey through life that drives Legendary.
</p>
<p>
“It’s everything I’ve gone through in the last seven months. It’s trying to get back to living. Something has to inspire you; you have to have some sort of muse. Mine was going out and drinking maybe a little too much [laughs],” Dales says. “Everything’s Fine is mostly about boy-meets-girl trials and tribulations, which was very personal for me, but with Legendary we really wanted to inspire people to be a better person and have fun and live in the moment and enjoy every inch.”
</p>
<p>
The key track “Maybe Tonight,” was released on February 25, in conjunction with a campaign with Half Moon Kids (www.halfmoonkids.com), a community that shares Legendary’s challenge to become the best version of one’s self, share visions and meet likeminded people to gain added inspiration. “Maybe Tonight” was the perfect choice for the campaign, since the track drives home the album’s core message.
</p>
<p>
“’Maybe Tonight’ is my favorite song we’ve written as a band,” Dales says. “It’s the album’s thesis song: It’s about being able to start over and be the best person you can.”
</p>
<p>
The next single off Legendary, “Boomerang,” dropped in March, alongside a full nationwide Top 40 Radio campaign. The song details “all these extreme, outlandish, almost unfathomable things you would do for a girl to impress her,” says Dales. He adds the key track was a collaborative writing effort, and a special “apex moment” when creative juices were flowing particularly well. It signaled a turning point in the making of Legendary.
</p>
<p>
“The single ‘Boomerang’ we wrote with our good friend Kevin Bard, who used to be in a band we toured with, and this producer Mighty Mike,” Dales recalls. “We’d written a handful of songs before that weren’t quite there, and by the time we finally wrote ‘Boomerang,’ it all kind of clicked.”
</p>
<p>
Although Everything’s Fine plumbed deep emotional depths, Legendary comes from a markedly different place. Filled with irresistibly catchy hooks and infectious beats, The band often uses Legendary’s sunny musical backdrop to showcase their penchant for writing witty, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, like on the cheeky “Fuck You Over.” “I really want to get back to that sarcastic lyrical sense, and I think that’s where ‘Fuck You Over’ came into play,” Dales explains. “It’s a song about having fun and being a little reckless, and finding the sarcastic voice I used to have. There aren’t a lot of love songs on the record.”
</p>
<p>
Well, th at’s not entirely true: the Hollywood-esque romance—track “Heart On The Floor” was inspired by everyone’s favorite heartthrob, actor Ryan Gosling. “It’s about meeting a girl in a bar, and it’s kind of my Ryan Gosling song. I’m hoping it’s my ultimate pickup line,” Dales says. “This song is about me wishing I was Ryan Gosling…that I was as smooth as Ryan Gosling.”
</p>
<p>
“The Summer Set already have kicked off their “legendary” tour itinerary, including an entire summer on the Vans Warped Tour, as well as a string of dates overseas and most excitingly, the band’s sold out full U.S. headliner.
</p>
<p>
With the band's critically-acclaimed new album Legendary available online and in stores, featuring the irresistably catchy single “Boomerang”, which has been receiving spins on Top 40 radio stations nationwide. The cover stars of Substream Magazine's April/May Issue, and winners of the Macy's iHeartRadio Rising Star competition, the band is en route to the top with a summer of success in store. Everything the band has done to date has led up to this moment, right here and now.
</p>
<p>
“We’ve been a band for almost six years, but it still feels like the first day all the time. Every single day I’m still amazed,” says Dales. “The last two years I’m really grateful for, and seeing the world really helped me hone in on what the new Summer Set record was supposed to sound like.”

<h4>Wallpaper.</h4>
<p>
Wallpaper. is a band with a radical new pop-soul sound and sensibility that's the antipodean opposite of "wallpaper" music (in the classic Muzak sense). Wallpaper.'s major label debut on Epic Records is a uncompromising declaration of intent. <a href="#" class="read-more">(read more)</a>
</p>
<div class="more-hidden">
<p>
"Wallpaper. represents the eccentric everyman," says group frontman Ricky Reed, "a blue collar pop band for the other 99%, a twerking class hero who might ACTUALLY show up at your house party - THAT IS WALLPAPER.!"
</p>
<p>
Direct no-nonsense party music on the surface, Wallpaper., comprised of Arjun Singh and Tom Peyton on drums, Derek Taylor on percussion and Novena Carmel vocals, follows the trajectory of intoxication through the fuck-ups and the hangovers and the adventures and manages to even pinpoint the divine light that strikes for a split-second in the damnedest of places. In the heartbeat of the songs, Wallpaper.'s provocative party anthems open up to celebrate core human values, especially friendship, neccessary for emotional survival.
</p>
<p>
In "Good 4 It," the new Wallpaper. single, Ricky, with a mix of swagger and vulnerability, invokes the essential function of friendship operating the deepest levels in times of real trauma. "It's describing a real terrible situation that you're in, without any of the details. There hasn't been a song about just needing help in a long time," he says, harkening back to the Beatle's "Help" and REM's "Everybody Hurts."
</p>
<p>
Where the dynamic of "Drunken Hearts," is built around "a love song between two train-wrecks," "The Underdog" cha mpions the long shot, the one you take because you don't take opportunity for granted. Ricky, whose "parents are not from money or involved in the entertainment industry," has been making music since he was 16 and strongly identifies with the underdog. It takes a strong work ethic to make it look as easy as Wallpaper. does. "I don't write a lot of songs," he confesses, "but I put a lot of work into all the songs I write. I'm not wasting anybody's time listening to my songs."
</p>
<p>
"Ricky Reed Is Real," Wallpaper.'s "thesis statement," contains a litany of attributes, concrete and abstract, re-enforcing the persona established on #STUPiDFACEDD, Wallpaper.'s 2011 breakout track (3.3 million YouTube views and counting). The track takes the artist's identity game to the next level, where "Ricky Reed" is a state-of-mind, an attitude, an idea fused directly with reality (a little like "Elvis," the concept). From "the song in your head" to "that hungover Sunday" right down to the "last dollar in the duct-taped wallet," Ricky Reed is in the details, just like God and the Devil.
</p>
<p>
Born in Berkeley, California, Ricky became obsessed with music at a young age. His mother, a bookkeeper, exposed him to a variety of sounds from the smooth California pop of Steely Dan to the funky sounds of Motown and Sly & the Family Stone. Sly's daughter, Novena Carmel, is one of the vocalists in Wallpaper.
</p>
<p>
"I took on West Coast rap when that hit," Ricky remembers. "I was a young kid listening to Dre and Snoop." But what really flicked young Ricky's switch was post-Nirvana mainstream punk like Green Day, Rancid and Operation Ivy. "It came directly hand-fed through the radio. I was the right age and it hit me." From there, he got into (then) contemporary rock and British bands. "Digging deeper and deeper and then my mom put me onto early Yes. I got into prog rock, ELP, King Crimson, all that insane stuff. That led me to new music and the avant garde, Steve Reich, Boulez, classical music. I had a prog rock band. And then I decided I want to make some simple silly songs."
</p>
<p>
The result was Wallpaper.'s debut, 2009's T REX EP, a collection of two and 1/2 minute satiric pop songs. Influenced by Zapp & Roger and other 70s funk band, Ricky had incorporated Auto-Tune pitch correction into his recordings as a kind of satiric emotional distancing device. Wallpaper.'s debut album, Doodoo Face (also released in 2009), found Ricky reaching into deeper grooves for inspiration. "I started introducing R&B from my childhood into the songs so I could play at house parties and have fun."
</p>
<p>
By 2010, Ricky, unsure about the fate of Wallpaper., was honing his musical and songwriting skills doing commercial work. Looking back over the fledgling Wallpaper. catalog, he could feel a "real pop potential in these songs," but wasn't sure how to tap that. During the holidays, he found himself alone in a studio for a ten day stretch. "I had this weird epiphany," he recalls. "I should just do whatever I want." Giving himself permission to work in a new way opened up a "creative renaissance" that produced #STUPiDFACEDD, a pulse-of-the-culture track that nailed a contemporary ethos as accurately as the Beastie Boys had Fought For The Right To Party a quarter century earlier. The track, and its 21st century Satyricon video, proved pivotal in the Wallpaper. saga. Songwriter and record executive Evan Bogart signed Wallpaper. to Boardwalk Records and helped shepherd #STUPiDFACEDD to the good people at MTV's "Jersey Shore."
n."
</p>
<p>
MTV's next move was to collaborate with Wallpaper. on an animated video for BEST FUCKING SONG EVERR, a song celebrating friendship and loyalty in a storyline featuring the band members.
</p>
<p>
One evening in December 2011, Ricky Reed sat down at a grand piano in the auditorium of the Sony Building in Los Angeles and sang "#STUPiDFACEDD Reprise," a lounge jazz version of Wallpaper.'s signature song, for a small audience that included LA Reid and Tricky Stewart. The evening ended with Wallpaper. signing with Epic Records (a joint venture with Boardwalk Music Group).
</p>
<p>
During the recording of the new Wallpaper. album, Ricky's been dividing his time between his beloved Bay Area and the City of Angels. In the middle of 2012, in the same Echo Park studio that birthed #STUPiDFACEDD, Ricky reached a new creative apotheosis. "Caffeinated and drinking by myself, there's a magic fuzzy place that I really like," he admits candidly proffering a glimpse into his creative process, "but I was going way too hard into it and feeling crazy and alone and in a room with no windows." From which sprang "Puke My Brains Out," a glorious confrontation with the absolute that's gnarly, profound and funny. "It was born out of frustration with where I was at. A new journey began and it ends up being the strongest material I've ever done. I holed up in the studio in October and rewrote almost the whole album from scratch."
</p>
<p>
Ricky and points proudly to one of Wallpaper.'s manifestos, "Puke My Brains Out," which is "not really a party jam or fully ironic. It's a general sense of feeling overwhelmed and needing to expel all the noise that's in your brain. It's about infor mation overload really." A lyric video for the song, directed and animated in "90s early internet hell graphics by Ricky Reed," is currently racking up views on YouTube.
</p>
<p>
Ricky's genius is the ability to compress all that information--verbal, rhythmic, melodic, technological, psychological, emotional, mental, physical, spiritual--into pop hooks that strike direct and true and stick to the brain.
</p>
<p>
For this latest batch of Wallpaper. material, Ricky Reed has "taken all that influence of punk and all that stuff I grew up listening to and all that attitude with the bass and understanding funk and pocket and weight and wrapping into one thing with hooks. If 'FUCKING BEST SONG EVERR' is your last reference point, you have no idea where I'm at right now." The new Wallpaper. album is the way to find out.
